Shimla, July 1
A chilling murder case has emerged involving the disappearance of a taxi driver from Solan. The driver, Hari Krishna, had picked up two passengers, Jaskaran Jot and Gurmeet Singh, from Shimla to Manali on June 24. On their return journey on June 25, Krishna informed his family from Barmana at 8:20 PM that he would drop the passengers in Bilaspur and return. Shortly after, his phone was switched off.
Concerned, Krishna’s father Deshraj began searching and discovered CCTV footage showing the taxi at a petrol pump in Bhararighat. Disturbingly, one passenger was seen driving the taxi while the other sat next to him, with a body-like figure lying in the back seat. Bloodstains were found in the taxi when it was later discovered in Ludhiana.
On Sunday, Bilaspur police took the accused to the crime scene. The youths confessed to strangling Krishna with a towel in Bagi, Bilaspur, and then assaulting his face with stones. They initially intended to dispose of the body in a lake but failed to find a suitable spot. Instead, they dumped the body into the Kiratpur canal. Divers scoured the canal but found no trace of the body. BBMB divers will join the search on Monday.
The accused have been placed under a five-day police remand. Evidence, including blood and stones used in the murder, was found at the scene, though the victim’s mobile phone and the murder towel remain missing. The investigation continues, as the police work to piece together this brutal crime.
