Shimla, July 3,
The Tricity Tempo Traveller Union in Chandigarh has announced a complete boycott of Himachal cabs in the regions of Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi. In a media communique by the union , they announced that a significant meeting to address ongoing concerns regarding the safety and treatment of their drivers and tourists in Himachal Pradesh is taking place today in Chandigarh.
This decision follows multiple incidents of local Himachal cab drivers and operators reportedly beating tourists and drivers, as evidenced by numerous videos circulating on social media, they stated.

The tricity union emphasizes the legal provision that all state tourist cab permits are only valid for pickups within their home state and at one designated pickup point outside their state. Any violation of this law will prompt immediate action from the union starting today, 3rd July 2024.
The union also highlights the issue of double taxation imposed by the Himachal government on cabs from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and other states, which they assert is against the All-India Tourist Permit (AITP) rules.

The union clarifies that while they are not boycotting Himachal Pradesh as a destination, they will strictly enforce a boycott on Himachal cabs operating in their states for pickups. This action aims to ensure fair treatment and adherence to tourist permit regulations.
The Tricity Tempo Traveller Union urges all taxi unions and operators from Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi to join the meeting and collaborate on this crucial matter.
Meanwhile in response to these escalating tensions, Himachal Pradesh Cabinet Minister Aniruddh Singh had assured on Tuesday that the officials of Himachal and Punjab would collaborate to resolve the dispute. Singh emphasized the long-standing cooperation between taxi operators of both states and stressed the importance of maintaining mutual brotherhood. He assured that police action would be taken against those breaking the law and promised a swift resolution to the tensions.
The minister’s response came after Rajendra Thakur, Chairman of the All Himachal Commercial Vehicle Joint Action Committee, pointed out that recent violent incidents in tourist hotspots like Dalhousie, McLeodganj, and Manali were wrongly attributed to taxi drivers. Thakur clarified that these acts were perpetrated by mischievous elements, not taxi operators, but have nonetheless negatively impacted the business of Himachal taxi operators.
