CBI arrests own DSP in ₹2.5 Crore bribery case Involving ED official

In a turn of events, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested its own DSP, Balbir Singh, in connection with the ₹2.5 crore bribery case involving the Enforcement Directorate (ED) Assistant Director, Vishal Deep. The arrested DSP was presented before the court, which granted a one-day remand for further investigation.
The arrest follows allegations made by Vishal Deep against the CBI officer, accusing him of demanding a 10% commission from the alleged bribe amount.
In a 15-page written complaint addressed to the CBI Director and other senior officials, Vishal Deep claimed that the DSP had incited him to seek a bribe from educational institution owners in Himachal Pradesh, who were under investigation for money laundering.
This complaint, submitted on January 3 while Vishal Deep was still evading arrest in Scholarship scam case , led to the recent action against the CBI officer.
The case revolves around accusations that Vishal Deep and his associates demanded ₹2.5 crore in bribes from owners of educational institutions implicated in a money laundering case linked to the Himachal Pradesh scholarship scam.
The CBI had registered two FIRs, numbered 33 and 34, against Vishal Deep, who was later arrested along with his brother Vikasdeep and another associate, Neeraj. The agency recovered approximately ₹1.10 crore from the accused during the investigation.
Before his arrest, Vishal Deep had alleged that the bribery accusations were a trap orchestrated by the CBI DSP and other complainants to falsely implicate him.
He maintained that the accusations were part of a conspiracy to discredit him and derail his investigation into the scholarship scam. Deep further claimed that the CBI DSP played a key role in framing him by planting a proxy to act on his behalf in the bribery case.
Vishal Deep, who secured transit bail from Mumbai, has continued to contest the allegations, asserting his innocence and accusing the CBI of acting with malice.
His complaint has brought the agency’s internal operations under scrutiny and highlighted the ongoing feud between the ED and the CBI.
The bribery case, already marked by accusations and counter-accusations between the two premier investigative agencies, has now deepened with the arrest of the CBI DSP.
The developments raise concerns about internal accountability and the credibility of investigations conducted by the agencies
