The historic Gaiety Theater in Shimla is set to host a captivating evening of classical dance on September 21st. The event, titled “Celestial Rhythms,” is a joint collaboration between the Shimla Kala Sangam Society and Pracheen Kalakender Chandigarh.
Poonam Sharma, President of the Kala Sangam Dance Academy, announced the details at a recent press conference in Shimla. She highlighted the event’s mission to provide a platform for artistic expression and promote India’s rich cultural heritage. With over three decades of experience teaching classical dance, Sharma expressed her commitment to nurturing the next generation of performers.
Approximately 60-70 students from the Kala Sangam Dance Academy will grace the stage, showcasing their mastery of intricate rhythmic patterns in Rudrataal, Jhaptaal, and Teentaal. Renowned dancer Vidushi Sameer Kaushal and her students will also perform the exquisite “Chatur Ang Shastri” dance, further enriching the evening.
Sejal Kaushal, Secretary of Pracheen Kalakender, will be the chief guest for the event. Her presence will add significance to the occasion, given her dedication to preserving traditional Indian arts.
The program will commence at 5:00 PM, promising a mesmerizing blend of rhythm, grace, and cultural pride. Sharma emphasized the importance of continuing the legacy of classical dance and ensuring its vitality among younger generations. Shimla, often referred to as the “Queen of Hills,” will once again serve as a cultural hub, offering locals and tourists an opportunity to experience the beauty of Indian classical dance in one of its most iconic venues.
