Shimla, July 24,
In a political development, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President and Union Minister JP Nadda said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah dispatched an inter-ministerial central team to Himachal Pradesh to assess disaster-related losses within 20 days of a request made by BJP representatives from the state.
Nadda made the remarks following a meeting with a high-level BJP delegation from Himachal Pradesh that included Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, State BJP President Dr. Rajeev Bindal, Union Minister Anurag Thakur, MPs Suresh Kashyap, Kangana Ranaut, Dr. Rajeev Bhardwaj, Indu Goswami, Sikander Kumar, Harsh Mahajan, and MLAs Vinod Kumar, Hans Raj, and Deep Raj.
The delegation met with Nadda to apprise him of the situation in disaster-affected regions across Himachal and urged for continued central support in rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts. During the meeting, the BJP leaders also requested Nadda to visit the affected areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Nadda said, “Union Minister Amit Shah extended every possible support in rescue and relief operations, including deployment of NDRF, ITBP, Army units, and Air Force helicopters. On our request, he sent an inter-ministerial team within twenty days for on-ground assessment.”
Nadda further stated that a high-level technical committee was also constituted to study the causes of disasters in the region. The expert group includes representatives from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) Pune, and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore.
He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre had approved ₹2006.40 crore for Himachal Pradesh for rehabilitation and reconstruction following the 2023 disasters caused by landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts. The first installment of ₹451.44 crore was released on July 7, 2025.
In addition, the state received ₹198.80 crore as the first installment of its share from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) on June 18, 2025. A total of 13 NDRF teams are currently deployed in various parts of the state to aid rescue and relief efforts.
Nadda highlighted that, considering the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events in the state, the Centre had constituted a multi-disciplinary team of experts to recommend long-term mitigation strategies. He noted that the inter-ministerial central team visited affected areas from July 18 to 21 to conduct independent assessment of losses, even before receiving a formal memorandum from the state.
“The Centre under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership stands firmly with states during times of disaster—without any discrimination,” Nadda said, reiterating the BJP’s commitment to Himachal’s recovery.
The statement marks a significant political moment, showcasing the BJP’s role in mobilizing central resources for the state and highlighting the Centre’s prompt response to their appeal.
