CM Sukhu highlights ₹63.47 Cr surge in HRTC’s income in eight months

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, during a review of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) today, reiterated the State Government’s determination to transform HRTC into a self-sustaining and effective entity.
He highlighted that the corporation’s revenue has surged by ₹63.47 crore in the first eight months of the current year, a result of collaborative efforts between the government and the dedicated HRTC workforce.
The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s ongoing support, noting that a monthly grant of ₹60 crore is being provided to HRTC, ensuring the timely disbursement of salaries and pensions to employees and retirees for the past two years.
Serving as the backbone of transportation in the State, HRTC facilitates the daily commute of around 5 lakh passengers, navigating the challenging terrains of Himachal Pradesh.
In line with its goal to establish Himachal Pradesh as a Green Energy State by 2026, the government is focused on transitioning HRTC to a ‘Green HRTC.’ CM Sukhu announced plans to replace the existing diesel-powered buses with electric buses and allocated ₹327 crore for the acquisition of new e-buses. This initiative is expected to play a pivotal role in the state’s environmental conservation and sustainable development efforts.
Additionally, to enhance the commuter experience, the Chief Minister instructed the construction of new bus stands and the implementation of cashless payment systems on HRTC buses. Himachal Pradesh is the first state in the country to introduce such digital advancements in public transport.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri lauded the government’s efforts to elevate HRTC’s reputation, referring to its buses as models of comfort and efficiency. He also commended the professionalism and dedication of HRTC employees, whose relentless efforts ensure the smooth operation of the corporation.
