CM Sukhu questions BJP’s politicization of Salooni murder case despite arrests
Shimla, June 17
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their response to the Salooni murder case in Chamba district. Despite the swift arrests made by the police, the BJP continues to protest and politicize the issue, according to the Chief Minister.
Speaking at a press conference, Thakur Sukhu highlighted that all the accused in the murder case had been apprehended within 24 hours. He found it illogical that the BJP was still protesting and demanding an inquiry by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), especially since the ruling party at the Centre could easily initiate an NIA investigation with a simple phone call from the Leader of Opposition.

The Chief Minister accused the BJP of exploiting the situation for political gain, as the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections may be influencing their actions. Despite the arrests, the BJP’s youth wing, Yuva Morcha, took matters into their own hands and set fire to the houses of the accused after five days of the incident. Thakur Sukhu expressed his disappointment at these protests, stating that they were engaging in dirty politics despite assurances that justice would be served.
Thakur Sukhu suggested that instead of focusing on this case, it would be more appropriate for the BJP to address issues concerning the welfare of the state. He called for collaboration between the government and the opposition to protect the state’s rights, such as advocating for increased water cess and royalty in hydropower projects. The Chief Minister emphasized that the Congress party would support cases that prioritize the state’s interests and urged the BJP to do the same.
