Buoyed by recent ULB gains, the Congress now eyes Panchayat poll push in Himachal. Former MP and senior Congress leader Pratibha Singh on Wednesday said that the Congress’s strong showing in the recent municipal elections reflected growing public support for the party’s development-oriented politics in Himachal Pradesh.
In a statement issued here, Pratibha Singh thanked the people of the state for backing Congress-supported candidates and said the party contests elections on the basis of development and welfare, whereas the BJP attempts to mobilise voters by “exploiting sentiments.”
She alleged that the BJP indulges in politics based on regionalism and religion, while the Congress believes in taking all sections of society along.
According to her, the municipal election results had clearly indicated that public opinion in the state was tilting in favour of the Congress.
Expressing confidence over the upcoming urban civic contests, she said the Congress was hopeful of registering victory in all four municipal corporation elections as well.
The Congress leader also called upon party workers and office-bearers to unite ahead of the Gram Panchayat elections and work towards strengthening the “rural parliament.” She urged workers to counter what she termed as “false propaganda” of the BJP at the grassroots level.
Pratibha Singh said rural development remained the primary objective of the Congress and stressed the need to strengthen the party’s ideology so that people could fully benefit from the welfare schemes being implemented by the state government.

She congratulated party leaders, office-bearers and workers for the party’s performance in the civic polls and once again expressed gratitude to the people of Himachal Pradesh for their support.
This statement came at a time when most of Congress leaders expect Chief minister and Rohit Thakur couldn’t performed in Urban local bodies poll and lost ULBs poll to BJP in their home turf. This election would also going to impact the popularity of Congress and BJP leaders as Local Bodies poll is considered the nursery of public life.
