Shimla, Apr 2
In a recent statement, Himachal Pradesh Congress Working President and MLA Chandrashekhar has alleged that former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur orchestrated the entry of Rajendra Rana into the BJP to undermine the Dhumal family. Chandrashekhar emphasized that during the 2017 assembly elections, Rana, contesting on the Congress symbol, triumphed over BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate, Prem Kumar Dhumal. Despite BJP securing a majority, Dhumal was denied the Chief Minister’s post.
Chandrashekhar criticized Jairam Thakur, labeling him as the “Accidental Chief Minister,” claiming that he neglected Dhumal’s family and focused on promoting Rana. He highlighted Thakur’s failure to visit Dhumal even once after assuming office, contrasting sharply with his sudden show of affection towards the Dhumal family upon Rana’s entry into BJP.
According to Chandrashekhar, the people of Hamirpur district still remember the mistreatment inflicted upon the Dhumal family during the previous BJP government’s tenure. He accused Thakur of sidelining Dhumal’s interests and prioritizing Rana’s agenda while holding the Chief Minister’s office.
Moreover, Chandrashekhar alleged that Rana’s entry into BJP, despite opposition from the Dhumal family, demonstrates Thakur’s disregard for their self-respect. He criticized Rana for purportedly insulting Dhumal over the past 11 years, despite considering him his political mentor.
Chandrashekhar predicted that the people of Hamirpur would not succumb to Rana’s influence again and vowed a resounding defeat for him in the upcoming by-election. He expressed confidence in Congress’s prospects, asserting that they would sweep all six seats and thwart BJP’s money-driven politics with people power.
