In one of the flaring communal hysteria which happened recently, in a suburb of Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh the district court snubbed and reprimanded the Special Investigation team of Himachal Pradesh police for not conducting fair probe.
The district and sessions judge Sirmour today reprimanded the police for unilateral action in the case of inciting communal riots in Majra of Poanta Sahib in Sirmaur district of Himachal. In this case SIT was constituted under the chairmanship of DSP Bir Bahadur, but even after almost two weeks, the police are investigating only by registering a case against unknown people.
Significantly, on Tuesday, May 17, there were allegations of inciting religious sentiments between two communities. It started after poor remarks were made towards each other on social media. Religious sentiments of each other were hurt throughout the day. After which the police late evening, arrested a youth from Muslim side for spreading religious hysteria. However, that night the communal incident was averted by the police. Next day a head of Muslim side and former BDC was also arrested for spreading communal frenzy.
It is alleged that the police took unilateral action and arrested people from only one side, while both sides were waving swords on the spot.
At present the accused of only one side are behind bars whereas pertaining the other side only FIR has been registered against unknown people.
After the SIT was reprimanded by the District Court, the police has directed to give list of half a dozen accused along with their names. Sirmaur OP Jamwal told that the police is doing its job impartially.Some people have been called for questioning in the investigation of the case.
