Shimla, Oct 3
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has strongly condemned the recent incident of caste-based discrimination and harassment that led to the tragic death of a 12-year-old Dalit boy in Limbda village under Chirgaon tehsil of Rohru, Shimla district.
In a statement issued by the CPI(M) State Committee, the party expressed deep sorrow over the boy’s death following caste-based humiliation. “The party stands firmly with the grieving family in this hour of sorrow. Such caste atrocities can in no way be justified in an educated state like Himachal Pradesh,” said CPI(M) state secretary Sanjay Chauhan.
The party has demanded strict action against the culprits under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. A CPI(M) delegation will soon visit the family to investigate the facts on the ground.
Chauhan warned that if the government fails to take immediate action in this “very serious matter,” the CPI(M) will launch statewide protests against Dalit oppression on October 6.
“The deceased child belonged to a poor Dalit family. Denying him justice is against the very spirit of social justice enshrined in our Constitution. It is the responsibility of the government to prevent Dalit atrocities and uphold social justice,” Chauhan said.
He added that the state must also take concrete steps to sensitize society against caste-based discrimination to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
