Shimla, June 14
Communist Party of India (Marxist) has expressed serious concern over the shortage of LPG cylinders in Himachal Pradesh and restrictions on the sale of petrol and diesel, alleging that the measures are causing hardship to residents, particularly in rural areas, and affecting agricultural activities.
In a statement issued on Sunday, CPI(M) State Secretary Sanjay Chauhan said that conditions imposed by the Central Government on the supply of LPG cylinders have disrupted the distribution of cooking gas across the state. He claimed that many rural areas have not received regular LPG supplies for the past three months, leaving residents facing considerable difficulties.
According to Chauhan, people in remote areas are being forced to spend between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 to travel to gas agencies to collect cylinders, and even then supplies are not always available. He said LPG is the primary source of cooking fuel in the state, as restrictions on tree felling have limited access to firewood.
The CPI(M) leader urged the government to ensure an uninterrupted supply of LPG cylinders throughout Himachal Pradesh.
The party also criticized a notification issued by the Central Government on June 11, 2026, regarding rationing and restrictions on the sale of petrol and diesel.
Chauhan alleged that the implementation of these restrictions in the state has created problems for farmers and orchardists, as petrol pumps have reportedly stopped supplying fuel in bottles and cans.
He said the restrictions have affected the operation of farm equipment such as power tillers, spray machines, grass and wood-cutting machines, as well as grading and packaging equipment that depend on petrol and diesel.
