Shimla, Feb 27,
In a turn of tables and creating a political storm the BJP has managed to win the poll for the one Rajya seat from Himachal Pradesh. Harsh Mahajan of BJP has defeated Abhishek Manu Singhvi of Congress party. As per Randhir Sharma of BJP who was the counting agent and is member from Ghumarvin, both parties got 34 votes each. In the condition of a draw the final decision was taken by draw of slip, in which luck favoured BJP which won this seat.
Pertinent to mention that is was second time when a decision was held in casw of a tie through toss or draw of slip for Rajya sabha seat. In the year 2000 Congress lost RS poll in a similar fashion when Amarnath Bijwariya was defeated.
The victory has also been confirmed by party state President Rajeev Bindal in a media statement.
Noteworthy that Congress has a clear cut majority (40) in the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha. BJP with 25 MLAs is the biggest opposition.
However this result which is yet to be officially announced makes it evident that around 6 Congress and the 3 independent MLAs voted against the ruling party. Reports have also surfaced, though unconfirmed, that all the disgruntled MLAs who may have cross voted were spotted in Panchkula later this evening.
Speaking about it CM Sukhu has said that CRPF and Haryana police kidnapped the party MLAs after they cross voted.
The poll was held this morning wherein all the 68 MLAs of legislative assembly Caste their ballet.
Later opposition BJP filed a objection to cancel of the vote of one MLA Sudarshan Bablu whom they alleged of violating the code of Conduct as he was flown in a government helicopter to caste vote. However the objection was turned down after taking advice from the Election Commission of India.
