Shimla, July 9,
In a shocking turn of events, the usually serene Himachal Pradesh has become a battleground for political power, with recent developments casting a shadow over the upcoming Dehra by-poll. A video has surfaced, featuring BJP candidate and former MLA Hoshyar Singh making alarming threats. In the video, Singh is heard declaring that he has Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) security and threatening to shoot individuals who are allegedly tailing him in civilian clothes.
This incident has escalated tensions as Singh faces off against Kamlesh Kumari, the wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, in a high-stakes electoral battle. BJP has been vocal about the deteriorating law and order situation under the Congress-led state government. However, Singh’s own admission of possessing MHA security has added a new dimension to the controversy.
BJP spokesperson Karan Nanda, when contacted, defended Singh, explaining that a vehicle had been trailing Singh’s car for several days, raising security concerns. According to Nanda, Singh’s security guards found weapons in the car after stopping it, confirming that the occupants were plain clothes police officers assigned for his protection.
Talking about it the Leader of Opposition JaiRam Thakur said that the way the government is harassing the BJP candidate and supporters in the by-elections using the power of the government, it has become clear that they have accepted their defeat and they are venting their anger over the defeat because they also know that after the results are out, they will no longer be the Chief Minister and will not be able to misuse power to take revenge for their defeat, so they are busy settling their scores before the elections. Thakur said that till date, power has never been misused in this manner. The government has crossed all limits of dictatorship. The people of the state will give a befitting reply to this dictatorship and all the candidates including Hoshiar Singh from Dehra will win with record votes.
The video, where Singh threatens to shoot the undercover alleged personal, has sparked widespread outrage. Critics argue that such statements undermine the federal structure of India and could potentially lead to conflicts between central and state police forces. This incident draws parallels to a previous conflict involving Punjab and Haryana police over BJP worker Bagga.
As the state gears up for the by-election tomorrow, this incident has surely intensified the high stakes battle arena.
