Senior BJP leader, former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and former Union Minister Shanta Kumar has stirred political debate by drawing a comparison between alleged corruption under the Narendra Modi government and the plunder carried out by medieval invaders Mahmud of Ghazni and Muhammad Ghori.
Known for speaking his mind and counted among the founding members of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Shanta Kumar made the remarks while expressing concern over recent reports of theft involving donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
In his statement, Kumar said that Ghazni, Ghori and later the British had looted India, but the country was witnessing a different form of loot today. “The loot has not ended. Only its form has changed. Today, those looting are our own people and the government allowing such loot is also our own,” he remarked.
Referring to the reported theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Kumar said the incident was deeply disturbing as it involved one of the country’s holiest religious sites.
He said if such incidents could occur at a place that symbolises the faith of millions of devotees, it raised serious questions about accountability and governance.
