Shimla, Sept 14,
An Encroacher evicted from a piece of forest land after illicit green felling again reoccupied the same, Himachal Pradesh High Court on Thursday said in an order passed and directing the Division Forest Officer (DFO), Shimla, to take cognizance of a complaint.
In a complaint made by the Gram Panchayat Dak Goan alleged that forest encroachment freed by the department recently was in possession of the Encroacher again.
The bench, comprising Justice Vivek Singh Thakur and Justice Bipin C. Negi, issued the directive while hearing a connected matter.
The Gram Panchayat’s complaint has been registered as CMP No. 17021 of 2024 in CWP No. 1028 of 2002, highlighting concerns over encroachment on forest land in Dhali and Diswani beats.
The Panchayat reported that individuals had earlier been removed from the land after illegally cutting down trees and plants, but they have allegedly reoccupied the area.
The court instructed the learned Additional Advocate General to obtain a report from the Division Forest Officer of Rohru Forest Division by the next scheduled hearing on September 17, 2024.
This order aims to address the continuing forest encroachment issues raised by the Gram Panchayat.
The next hearing would determine the steps to be taken based on the report submitted by the concerned forest officer.
The case was heard as part of several connected matters related to land disputes and environmental concerns, reflecting the court’s broader agenda of dealing with forest encroachment in the region.
