Shimla, Sept 13,
Shimla Police have registered four First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with the violent protests that erupted in Sanjauli on September 11, 2024. The protests were sparked by allegations of unauthorized construction of a mosque in the area.
The FIRs, filed at Dhalli police station, detail various charges against the protesters, including rioting, unlawful assembly, and assault on police personnel. Several individuals have been named in the FIRs, and the police are also investigating unidentified individuals who were involved in the violence.
According to the police, the protests turned violent when demonstrators clashed with security forces, defying prohibitory orders, and removing barricades. Around six police personnel were injured during the clashes.
Among those named in the FIRs are former Mayor Satya Kaundal, Kamal Gotam, Mahender Kumar (Nilu), Vikas Thapta, Naresh Dasta, Vijay Sharma, Raj Kumar, Naresh Verma, Ashok Pathak, Sanjeev Verma, Kalpna Sharma, Ranjeet Banshta, Kamlesh Mehta, Ankush Chauhan, Simi Sood, Roshan, Ajay Bhardwaj, Kesar Singh, Kamal Thakur, Sangeeta Sood, Sarita Chauhan, Suresh Chaupal, Shweta, Tarun Sharma, Sundar Gumma, Trilok, and Chandan Boudh.
The police have stated that the protesters violated permission rules, raised slogans against minority communities, and are expected to face criminal charges for their involvement in escalating communal tensions.
