Mandi, Sept 13,
The Municipal Corporation Commissioner Court in Mandi, headed by HS Rana, has ordered the removal of two floors of a mosque on the Jail Road, of Mandi which were allegedly constructed without proper authorization.
The court’s decision, given on Friday, mandates that the illegal floors be demolished within 30 days. This 30-year-old mosque had its two additional floors built earlier this year, which prompted local authorities to take action.
The land is registered in the name of minority community woman, but an investigation revealed that part of the construction extended onto land belonging to the Public Works Department (PWD). The Municipal Corporation had issued a notice to halt the construction in June.
During the court proceedings, local Hindu organizations held protests, calling for the enforcement of building regulations.
The protests were met with a peaceful response from the authorities, with barricades set up around the mosque and water cannons used to disperse demonstrators. Despite some tensions, the situation remained under control.
District Commissioner Apoorv Devgan urged all parties to remain calm and peaceful. “We appeal to the public to maintain peace.
The administration is taking all necessary steps in accordance with the law, and we assure everyone that the situation is being closely monitored,” he said, encouraging tourists and locals alike to remain assured of their safety.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu also emphasized the importance of maintaining peace. He reassured that actions would be taken within the legal framework, and a committee has been formed to address the issue.
“Himachal Pradesh is a state where all religions are respected. We are committed to resolving this matter lawfully, without causing harm to any community,” said Sukhu.
The opposition Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has also stepped forward, urging communities to show restraint and supporting the government’s efforts to maintain harmony. “We believe in working together to ensure peace and understanding between all communities,” a BJP spokesperson said.
With increased security measures and efforts from both the government and opposition, the situation in Mandi remains peaceful, and the administration is working to ensure that communal tensions do not escalate.
Authorities continue to encourage tourists to visit the area without fear, as the state remains committed to upholding law and order.
