Enviro-Ideation Hackathon 2023 Kicks Off, Empowering Students to Transform Waste into Wonder

“Starting today, will mark the beginning of a Enviro-Ideation Hackathon 2023, a dynamic event dedicated to addressing critical environmental issues through creative problem-solving,” stated Anil Joshi, Member secretary, H.P Pollution control board. Themed “Waste to Wonder,” this hackathon aims to engage and empower undergraduate and above students from Himachal Pradesh to find innovative solutions to pressing environmental challenges, including solid waste, plastic waste, e-waste, and C&D waste, he added.
With the goal of shaping a more sustainable future, the Enviro-Ideation Hackathon 2023 provides a unique platform for young minds to collaborate, brainstorm, and unleash their creativity. By harnessing the power of ideation and technological advancements, this event seeks to transform waste into wonder and find lasting solutions to the environmental crisis.

During the three-week hackathon, to culminate on World environment day, the participants will form teams and work tirelessly to develop ground breaking ideas that contribute to the preservation and conservation of our environment. Through their collective talent and knowledge, these aspiring innovators hope to unlock fresh perspectives and pioneer solutions with the potential to create a lasting positive impact, he added.
Registration and idea submission for the Enviro-Ideation Hackathon 2023 opened on May 15, 2023, and will continue until the grand finale on June 5, 2023. Aspiring participants are encouraged to form teams of up to three members and utilize their diverse backgrounds, including engineering, environmental sciences, computer science, and business, to approach the challenges from different angles, urged Joshi.
The hackathon promises an exciting prize pool for the winners. The first-place team will receive a cash prize of Rs. 75,000/-, while the second and third-place teams will be awarded Rs. 50,000/- and Rs. 25,000/-, respectively. Teams placed between 4th and 6th will receive a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- each, and teams placed between 7th and 10th will be granted Rs. 5,000/- each. Furthermore, the winning teams will be honored with trophies and certificates, recognizing their exceptional contributions to the environmental cause.
To facilitate seamless registration and idea submission, a dedicated web portal has been launched at https://hppcbhackathon.in/. The website provides comprehensive information about the hackathon, and interested participants are urged to download the event brochure for further details. Throughout the ideation process, the participants will receive guidance and support from the field offices, including Regional Offices and Laboratories, he concluded.
