Former Member of Parliament from Kangra and senior leader Kishan Kapoor passed away on Saturday at PGI Chandigarh after a prolonged illness. He was 73.
A veteran politician, Kapoor had a long and illustrious career in public service. He served as a Member of Parliament from Kangra, securing a record victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with 72.2% of the vote share. He was also a five-time MLA from Dharamshala and held several key ministerial portfolios in the Himachal Pradesh government, including Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Industries, and Transport.
Known for his grassroots connect and administrative acumen, Kapoor was among the senior-most leaders from Himachal Pradesh. His passing marks a significant loss for the state’s political and social landscape.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri has expressed grief over the demise of former minister Kishan Kapoor. He said that Kishan Kapoor fought hard in his political life and always followed high ideals. The Deputy Chief Minister said that Kishan Kapoor’s remarkable contribution to the welfare of the people and development of the state will always be remembered.
Late Kapoor is survived by his family, friends, and a legacy of dedicated service. His final rites will be performed in Dharamshala.
