Shimla, July 9
Shimla Police has stepped up its anti-narcotics campaign by arresting four accused in separate NDPS cases while intensifying action against illegal cultivation of opium and cannabis across the district.
During the past two days, Rohru Police arrested Kamal Chauhan (31), a resident of Rohru, after he was found to have violated the conditions of his release under Section 35(3) of the BNSS.
Kamal was initially booked on February 17 after police recovered about 2 grams of heroin (chitta), an electronic weighing machine and ₹7,800 from his possession. An FIR (Case No. 13/2026) was registered under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act, and he was released on notice.
However, just four days later, on February 21, Chirgaon Police again caught him with 4.5 grams of heroin and registered another case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act. Following the collection of sufficient evidence and violation of the notice conditions, police secured the necessary court orders and arrested him. He is being produced before the court.

In another operation on July 6, the Special Cell of Rohru Sub-Division intercepted a vehicle following specific intelligence. During a search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, police recovered about 8 grams of heroin from Nitish (28) of Karasa, Rohru, and Anshwan Mehta (28) of Rohal, Chirgaon. A case (FIR No. 27/2026) under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Jubbal Police Station. Both accused were arrested and produced before the court for police remand.
The latest arrests follow the recent arrest of Bhadar Singh by Nerwa Police in an illicit opium cultivation case registered in May.
The action also comes close on the heels of the destruction of an illegal cannabis plantation spread over nearly 10 bighas in the Kofardhar (Nagah) area of Chopal subdivision, where police estimated around one million cannabis plants had been illegally cultivated.
