Normal life is affected in Himachal Pradesh after fresh snowfall on the high reaches, overcast skies, intensifying winter conditions across the state.
Snowfall was recorded in Kaza, Jispa, Tandi, and Bharmour, adding to the already challenging weather. Keylong, Kufri, and Narkanda also witnessed fresh snowfall, with snow depth reaching up to 2 inches in certain areas.
The minimum temperature dropped significantly, with Tabo recording the lowest at minus 5.2°C. In contrast, Dhaulakuan experienced the highest maximum temperature at 19.6°C.
Minimum temperatures of Shimla dip to Shimla 3.2°C, Sundernagar 3.5°C,Manali 1.4°C, Keylong: minus 6.0°C and Kalpa 0.4°C.
Significant rainfall was observed in Sarahan (18.1 mm), Rohru (15.0 mm), and Manali (5.0 mm), among others. Gondla received the highest snowfall (6 cm), while Kufri, Khadrala, Keylong, and Shillaroo recorded 5 cm each.
Fog conditions affected visibility in Sundernagar (400 m) and Mandi (500 m). Gusty winds were recorded in Kufri (68.52 km/h), Narkanda (59.26 km/h), and Dhaulakuan (48.15 km/h), further compounding the cold.
Snowfall disrupted vehicular movement on several key routes. The Darcha to Shinkunla and Darcha to Sarchu routes remain closed until the summer of 2025 due to heavy snowfall. The Atal Tunnel route to Manali and Keylong is open for 4×4 vehicles but requires caution as snow depth ranges between 2 to 4 inches. The Kokhsar to Lossar route via Kunzum Top is closed until summer, with snow accumulation reported.
The Hindustan-Tibet National Highway near Kufri and Narkanda witnessed light snowfall, causing partial disruptions. Restoration work is underway to clear the roads. The Udaipur to Tindi route is open for vehicles with snow chains, while the Kaza to Lossar road remains operational under cloudy conditions.
Residents and travelers are advised to avoid non-essential travel, especially in high-altitude regions. Roads are slippery due to snow accumulation, posing a significant risk.
The weather forecast predicts continued cold wave conditions, with more snowfall expected in high-altitude regions.
Light snowfall may occur in Shimla town at few pockets. Also Light snowfall at Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur and light to moderate rain and snowfall at Solan and Sirmour
Authorities urge caution during travel and preparedness for adverse conditions.
