Shimla, Sept 21
The Himachal Pradesh High court today reserved the order on a election petition filed by former counselors of CPI(M) Rajiv Thakur and Simi Nanda of Congress. They had challenged delimitation of Shimla Mincipal Corporation by Deputy Commissioner Shimla and State government.
The matter was listed for hearing before the court of Justice Sabina and Justice Shushil Kukreja on Tuesday and Wednesday to cancel the delimitation of Phagli and Summerhill wards. The high court had earlier passed an order in favour of the both petitioner to consider the objections and complaint against the delimitation process being conducted in two MC wards and three other wards. However, the petitioner again moved before the bench after Deputy Commissioner Shimla and Divisional Commissioner rejected the objections and complainant challenging the delimitation in the two wards.
It is worthwhile to mention that State Election Commission have also knocked the door of Supreme court in this matter. They have plead to set aside the stay order of High court and opposed this petition, to conduct Shimla MC poll which were scheduled in month of June but could not be held owing to the this matter being before the high court.
Partly accepting the plea of SEC, the SC has ordered the State high court to dispose off the petition and pronounce judgement in the matter before September 29.
The district administration have increased the number of MC ward of Shimla to 41 from existing 34 recently to reduce the number of voters in each wards.
