Shimla Sep 20,
Himachal Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has decided to allocate the 780 MW Jangi Thopan Powari Hydro Power Project to the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (HPPCL), effectively taking it away from Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. (SJVN).
The decision marks a strategic shift in the state’s power management and development of hydroelectric resources.
Additionally, the Cabinet also approved the allocation of the 1630 MW Renukaji Hydro Power Project and the 270 MW Thana Plaun Pump Storage Hydro Electric Project to HPPCL. These steps are expected to boost the state’s energy production capacity and increase the role of state-run corporations in developing critical infrastructure.
Beyond power projects, the meeting witnessed several other key decisions. The Cabinet approved the formation of a Cabinet Sub-Committee, chaired by Health Minister Col. (Dr.) Dhani Ram Shandil. This committee will focus on strengthening the Rogi Kalyan Samitis, which play a vital role in healthcare delivery across the state. Other members of the committee include Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh, Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, and Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma.
The Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog has been authorized to announce the results for Post Codes 903 and 939, with some posts held vacant pending investigation outcomes.
The education sector also saw significant changes, with the Cabinet elevating the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) in Solan as the apex institution for teacher training and school education research. In addition, 12 District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) will be strengthened to provide better professional development for teachers.
The Cabinet also approved the establishment of two 50-bed Critical Care Blocks at Civil Hospital Dehra in Kangra district and Civil Hospital Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district. Other health-related decisions include setting up Superintending Engineer offices and Block Medical Officer offices in Dehra.
Further, the government has agreed to fill 100 vacant posts of Assistant Forest Guards and create several new posts in various departments, including the Home Department and the Police Department, to strengthen law enforcement and other services across the state.
These decisions reflect the government’s focus on infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and public safety.
