In the motion, Sharma stated that the remarks, were political in nature and made during a media briefing. “I am enclosing two digital media links containing footage of press conferences addressed by the Superintendent of Police, Shimla, Mr. Sanjeev Gandhi,” stated the motion letter addressed to Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha. Adding,” In these recordings, Mr. Gandhi has made defamatory and threatening remarks against me, including referring to me as the “mastermind” in the Rajya Sabha election voting issue. It is important to note that, as of the date of this submission (i.e., 24-05-2025), no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against me, nor have I received any summons in connection with this matter. Despite the absence of any legal proceedings, the public statements made by Mr. Gandhi are not only prejudicial but also appear to be an attempt to tarnish my reputation and influence public perception against me,” he stated.,”….” I therefore request that cognizance of this apprehension be duly take,” stated the Privilege motion.
According to the BJP MLA, such conduct from a senior administrative officer undermines the integrity of the legislative institution and challenges the principles of public accountability. He urged the Speaker to take urgent cognizance of the matter and initiate appropriate action.
Describing the statements as both defamatory and damaging to his reputation as a public servant, Sharma maintained that the episode represents a serious concern regarding the decorum expected from those in official positions. The matter is expected to be raised during the forthcoming session of the Vidhan Sabha.
If admitted, the motion could potentially result in an inquiry or other procedural measures by the House. The Speaker’s decision on the admissibility of the motion is awaited.
