Shimla, April 5 – Himachal Pradesh to form new Staff Selection Commission: CM
In a move to fill up the 3000 posts lying vacant in the state government, the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Sukhinder Singh Sukhu, has announced the constitution of a new Staff Selection Commission. The decision to form the new commission was taken after the government constituted a Deepak Shanan committee to investigate staff selection boards of other states and give its recommendations to avoid paper leak cases.
To ensure complete transparency in the recruitment process, the Chief Minister stated that the new employees would be posted on a rotational basis, and only those with undoubted integrity would be selected for the new commission. None of the employees currently posted in the Himachal Pradesh Staff Selection Commission (HPSSC) Hamirpur will be posted in the new commission as the government has invited options from the employees of HPSSC Hamirpur who would be assigned new duties along with their due promotions.
Sukhu also announced an extension of the age limit for aspirant candidates affected by the paper leak on the attainment of old examination age. Furthermore, to relieve the affected candidates, the government will fill up 3,000 functional posts through the new commission out of a total of 5,000 that will be filled up soon.
The Chief Minister stated that the government would adopt a zero-tolerance policy against paper leaks and that the new commission would be set up in Hamirpur. However, he emphasized that those employees posted in the previous commission would not be assigned again.
The investigation into the paper leak scandal was initiated after a candidate named Avinash reported that he was offered a question paper before the JOA examination in exchange for Rs two lakh. After the Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested three accused in the JOA (IT) examination on December 25, 2022, the scope of the investigation was extended to the head of the recruitment commission.
Yesterday, the custodian of HPSSC, Jitender Kanwar, was also arrested for his involvement in the paper leak scandal. The Chief Minister has accused the previous government of ignoring the increasing number of paper leak incidents in the last five years, which led to the banning of the HPSSC after the leakage of 22 examination papers was discovered.
