Shimla, Apr 26,
Recent changes in traveller preferences have led to a significant upswing in tourism in Himachal Pradesh, with visitors seeking destinations that combine natural beauty with a peaceful environment. Noteworthy that even in 2024 in the first few months, the state had witnessed a marked increase in tourist inflow, as reflected in the Economic Survey 2024-25.

According to official data, Himachal Pradesh welcomed over 1.81 crore visitors in 2024, including nearly 18 million domestic tourists and more than 82,000 international travelers. Popular destinations like Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, and Dharamshala recorded strong footfalls, with Shimla alone attracting over 25 lakh Indian and 27,034 foreign tourists.
However even though this year bookings were nothing short of being termed as good, more rise is being witnessed in the last few days, stated a hotelier from Kasauli. Stakeholders attribute this rise to Himachal’s reputation for safety, serenity, and reliable infrastructure. “Our bookings have jumped significantly for the coming months in the previous few days,” he added. He noted that the demand surge could be linked to tourists exploring new, peaceful alternatives amid safety concerns elsewhere.
Himachal Pradesh’s advantage lies in its excellent connectivity — with regular ATR flights to key hill towns, a robust road network, and a variety of travel options including Volvo buses, toy trains, and organized taxi services. Moreover, the absence of any major security challenges allows tourists to enjoy their holidays with complete peace of mind.
New travel circuits, such as the Manali-Leh highway extension connecting to the Buddhist cultural belt (Dharamshala, Kaza, Tabo,), are also opening up diverse experiences for cultural and adventure enthusiasts. Eco-tourism initiatives, homestays, and sustainable travel projects are further enhancing visitor experiences while promoting responsible tourism practices.
Lahaul & Spiti, aided by the Atal Tunnel’s year-round access, has seen an impressive rise, drawing over 10 lakh visitors in 2024. Meanwhile, districts like Kinnaur and Chamba, previously less explored, have witnessed tourist arrivals crossing 4 lakh and 11 lakh respectively.
Amid rising heat across the plains, Himachal’s cool climate offers a refreshing escape, complemented by vibrant festivals, adventure sports, and scenic tranquillity.
The government’s proactive policies to maintain peace and encourage tourism have made the state a beacon for travellers seeking safe, fulfilling journeys in the lap of the Himalayas.
With these trends gaining momentum, Himachal Pradesh appears set to continue its growth as a preferred tourism destination in 2025 — reaffirming its stature as an “Abode of Peace and Beauty” for visitors from across the world.
