Shimla, Dec 14,
The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, has found himself embroiled in yet another controversy. After the recent “samosa controversy,” accusations have surfaced on social media claiming the CM being served a protected bird species, commonly referred to as “Jangali Murga” or the ‘Junglefowl’, during his visit to Tikkar village in the Chopal region of Shimla district.
As per documents, the feral chicken was reportedly listed on the dinner menu during the CM’s stay at Tikkar. A video circulating on social media appears to show the CM refusing to eat the dish and asking others, including ministers and officials, to try it, in case they eat non vegetarian.

Opposition reacts
BJP leader Chetan Bragta has strongly criticized the alleged incident, asserting that the Grey Junglefowl is a protected species, making its hunting and consumption illegal. Bragta presented documents to back his claims, demanding an apology from the CM for what he described as a grave offense against wildlife and the cultural ethos of Himachal Pradesh. “Himachal is a Devbhoomi (land of the gods), and even wild birds are respected here,” he stated.
Common practice in Villages
While hunting the Junglefowl is banned, it is reportedly a common practice in rural Himachal Pradesh for non-vegetarian communities to consume this bird, particularly during the winter months. The “Jangali Murga” or junglefowl is considered a delicacy among locals, despite its protected status.
Government response awaited
As of now, the state government has not officially commented on the matter. The controversy continues to stir debate, with the public awaiting clarification from the authorities.
This is a developing story. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
