Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the adoption of the Universal Standard Carton to pack Apple produce from the next season in the state.
Presenting the 2024-24 budget estimate in the state assembly of the state Chief Minister announced that Universal carton would help lakhs of apple growers to stop exploitation in the market.
He said that the state has already constituted a high level committee to make the rules to adopt the universal carton in the state which was chaired by the Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi. The state Government has also notified to adopt the universal carton for packaging of the apple produce from last year but the government could not implement the decision as the announcement was made in the middle of apple season.
Apple is backbone of the hill economy as it contributes Rs 45000 Cr to the state GDP.
