HP Govt resolves for underground ducting of electric cables: 65Cr sanctioned
Shimla, Dec 12
The State Government has accorded top priority for the beautification of towns and to address the problem of overhead electricity and other wires, the State Government has prioritized to undertake the task of undergrounding the electric cables and Rs. 65 crore has been sanctioned for the purpose, stated Himachal Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.
He said that under the project, Rs. 25 crore would be spent in Shimla town for ducting of electrical cables under Operation Circle of Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEBL), Kasumpti, Shimla and Rs. 20 crore each proposed for Nadaun area and Hamirpur town for laying and termination of underground cables. He directed the HPSEBL to ensure the completion of these works in a time-bound manner.
The Chief Minister said that this would go a long way in promoting tourism and better infrastructure for the tourists as well as for the residents of these three towns. The State Government is committed to ensure uninterrupted and improved power supply and was introducing various modern techniques to provide efficient services, he added.
Here it is pertinent to mention that though the step for under ground ducting of power cables is a welcome move, however no clarity has been given about other cables which are hanging on trees in the cities thus spoiling the natural beauty. Noteworthy that besides power cables, nowadays internet service cables being laid by private and public companies, are also becoming eye sores visible hanging from trees to buildings. ” Hope the CM will also address this issue also,” hoped Ramesh a citizen of the capital.
