IMD Issues Red Alert for Heavy Rainfall in Ranjit Sagar & Pong Dam Catchment Areas

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a red alert, predicting very heavy rainfall across numerous locations and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated sites within the Beas (Ranjit Sagar) and Satluj (Pong Dam) catchment areas of Himachal Pradesh over the next 24 hours.

An IMD spokesperson noted that substantial rainfall is expected at various places within the Beas and Sutlej catchment zones. Furthermore, there is a forecast for very heavy rainfall in specific isolated regions.

The red alert, which was issued this evening, has indicated that the trend of moderate to heavy rainfall will likely persist throughout the state. The IMD has also highlighted the likelihood of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall occurring in isolated pockets within the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Hamirpur, Mandi, Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Kullu, and Sirmaur.
Attributing the forecast to the combined effects of a robust Monsoon and a western disturbance, the IMD has cautioned that incessant heavy to very heavy rainfall could be observed in locations like Dalhousie, Sinhuta, Bhalai, Bhattiyat, Holi, Bharmaur, and Chamba. Other areas at risk include Jawali, Shahpur, Kangra, Dharamshala, Baroh, Dhir, Palampur, Khundain, Thural, Baijnath, and Jaisinghpur in Kangra.

In the regions of Haroli, Una, and Bangana, as well as Ghumarwin, Bilaspur, Jhandutta, and Nainadevi, the IMD warns of potential heavy rainfall and advises preparedness. The districts of Nalagarh, Ramshahar, Arki, and Kandaghat are also expected to experience similar conditions.
Moreover, towns such as Poanta, Dadahu, Nahan, Renuka, Kamrau, and Pacchad, along with Chopal, Sunni, Shimla, Rampur Chirgaon, Dodrakwar, Theog, Hamirpur, and Mandi, are urged to stay vigilant and brace for the possibility of heavy rainfall.
