Shimla, May 9
Vikramaditya Singh, the Congress candidate from the Mandi Parliamentary constituency and PWD Minister in the Himachal Pradesh Government, filed his nomination today. Leading a crowd of followers alongside Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Singh handed over the nomination papers to the returning officer.
Along with Singh, another candidate filed nomination papers for the Lok Sabha elections from the Mandi parliamentary constituency. Giving this information, the Election Officer at Mandi Parliamentary Constituency, Apoorva Devgan, said that today, along with Singh, aged 34 years, son of Virbhadra Singh, Padma Palace, Rampur, District Shimla, Sundar Singh Thakur, aged 59 years, son of Jog. Dhyan Thakur, Village Tegubehad, Post Office Khekhan, Tehsil Bhuntar District Kullu also presented his nomination papers as a covering candidate on behalf of the Indian National Congress.
In a affidavit accompanying his nomination papers, Singh disclosed assets valued at Rs 100.51 crore. While this figure indicates a marginal decline from his asset valuation during the November 2022 assembly elections, it nevertheless presents a substantial financial standing.
While addressing a huge crowd on the occasion of filing the nomination of Singh at Seri Manch in Mandi, he said that in the 2022 assembly elections, Jai Ram Thakur had given the slogan of changing the customs in the state, so people changed him. Adding that the current government has placed in front of the state the full account of the loot that the former BJP government committed by disrupting the state’s economy. The Congress government inherited a loan of more than Rs 70 thousand crore and liabilities of more than Rs 10 thousand crore. Despite this, his government kept its promise to the employees, restored the old pension and also guaranteed Rs 1500 to women, stated Singh.
Noteworthy is that till now a total of five candidates have submitted their nomination papers from the Mandi parliamentary constituency. With polling scheduled for June 1, 2024, the electoral landscape in Himachal Pradesh promises an enthralling contest. Singh, on one hand, seeks to uphold the Congress legacy in Mandi while navigating a terrain marked by familial legacies and dynamic electoral dynamics. Meanwhile, famous actress and political newcomer Kangana Ranaut from the BJP presents a formidable challenge with her outgoing image.
