Shimla, May 21
On May 20, 2024, the Government of Himachal Pradesh issued an urgent notification announcing a day of national mourning on May 21, 2024, following the tragic demise of His Highness Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and H.E. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Foreign Minister of Iran, in a plane crash. The directive, issued by the Chief Secretary, mandates that all National flags be flown at half-mast on buildings where they are regularly displayed.
This solemn day is intended to honor the departed dignitaries and mark respect for their contributions. Consequently, all official entertainment and scheduled events have been cancelled for the day. The notification was circulated to key officials, including the Secretary to the Governor, the Registrar General of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, and all Divisional Commissioners, among others. Additionally, it was forwarded to all Heads of Departments (HODs) and Deputy Commissioners (DCs)/Superintendents of Police (SPs) in Himachal Pradesh.
Notably, the notification reflects a strong diplomatic bond and mutual respect between India and Iran.
