Shimla, Dec 2,
Barely a month after the controversy surrounding the distribution of ‘prasad’ at the revered Deothsidh shrine in Himachal Pradesh, fresh allegations have emerged regarding irregularities in the auction of livestock offered at the shrine. According to reliable sources, an inquiry is underway to ascertain the truth behind the auctions, which allegedly resulted in the trust receiving significantly lower amounts than the actual value of the livestock.

Reports suggest that 28 goats were auctioned recently for a mere ₹30,000, raising eyebrows among experts who claim the assets could be worth much more. Allegations of opaque record-keeping and mismanagement have further heightened concerns, prompting audit agencies to probe the matter.
The Deothsidh shrine, located in Hamirpur district—home to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu—has often been at the center of political attention. Recent revelations about alleged irregularities could impact not only the shrine’s reputation but also the administration and political figures linked to its affairs. The shrine trust has already seen political upheaval, with former Congress rebels and recently ousted MLAs involved in its management.
Hamirpur district, known for its high literacy rate and its contributions to state leadership, has produced two chief ministers in a short span. However, allegations of murky deals at the shrine threaten to tarnish its image. Reports indicate that mismanagement at the shrine could erode public faith in religious institutions, a matter of significant concern given the emotional and spiritual importance of such places.
Observers note that the Constitution mandates a separation between religion and politics, yet controversies surrounding shrine management continue to surface. Alleged opaque dealings in such sacred places could have far-reaching implications, affecting public trust in both religious and administrative institutions.
The ongoing inquiry is expected to shed light on the matter. It remains crucial that the investigation proceeds transparently and holds those responsible accountable, ensuring that public trust in the shrine and its management is restored.
