In a tragic incident, Gaurav Bisht, a senior journalist with the Hindustan Times, passed away late last night after suffering a cardiac arrest. Bisht, 49, was a resident of Chota Shimla and had been recently advised by doctors to take precautions for his cardiac condition.
Despite the warnings, he was unable to reach the hospital in time, succumbing to the condition at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla.
According to sources, Bisht, who lived in Old Brock Host Najd Flower Dale, was rushed to IGMC Shimla after falling critically ill on the night of August 28.
Unfortunately, the doctors at IGMC declared him dead upon arrival. A post-mortem examination is being conducted today, after which further mortal remains to be taken to his native place at Rohru in Shimla district for the creamation.
Bisht leaves behind his mother, brother, wife, and son, who are mourning the sudden and untimely loss. His death underscores the increasing health concerns among media professionals, particularly those working under the high pressures of journalism.
This marks the third tragic loss of a journalist in Shimla over the past three months. Anand Bodh, a correspondent with the Times of India, also succumbed to a cardiac arrest recently, and Amar Ujala’s Senior Correspondent, Vipin Kala, died from hyperglycemia and other health complications.
The local journalistic community is in shock and grief, expressing deep condolences to Bisht’s family during this difficult time.
Former Director of Information and Public Relation Department B D Sharma expressed shock over his demise . In a message to grief striken family he said that it is unbelievable to know about the sudden demise of Gaurv Bisht the Bureau Chief of The Hindustan Times. He will leave so early, no one would have imagined, stated Sharma. He was thorough professional and also sincere . We in Shimla have lost four professional journalists in a row. Vipin Kala Sr journalist of Amar Ujala, Anand Bodh, Spl Correspondent of Tmes of India, and earlier veteran journalist Khushi Ram Sharma, said Sharma.
Himachal Pradesh Kissan Sabha Leader Dr Kuldeep Singh Tanwar said that tragic death of a working journalists is shocking to the entire town and and unbelievable.
President of Shimla Working Journalist Forum Kanwar Yogendra, Editor of Himachal Scape Vishal Sarin, Editor of Reporters Eye O P Thakur and Senior Correspondent Mohan Lal Verma also paid condolences to Bisht family and said that this untimely departure of their colleagues in State media community is highly painful to them.
