Shimla, April 23, Veteran Congress leader Kaul Singh Thakur has once again stirred political discourse in Himachal Pradesh, taking a sharp dig at the 2022 Himachal Pradesh Assembly election outcome and describing his defeat as a case of “situational infidelity” by the electorate.
Addressing a public gathering on Thursday, the eight-time MLA said he had come close to the Chief Minister’s post and enjoyed the confidence of the at the time. He claimed that the eventual Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was not initially among the priority choices of the party leadership.
Reflecting on his loss, Thakur said that a mix of circumstances and voter miscalculation led to his defeat. “Those who elected me eight times failed to judge the situation. It was a kind of situational infidelity. I did not just lose the election—I lost the Chief Minister’s post,” he said.
The remarks, laced with a tone of regret and assertion, underline Thakur’s continued effort to project his political relevance and long administrative experience. His repeated references to the 2022 outcome also signal that the veteran leader is unwilling to let the narrative settle without placing his perspective on record.
Mr Thakur who had been hold important portfolio of Revenue, Law and Health in Virbhadra Singh Government stated that he wants to test his luck for 2027 assembly elections if party high command would trust him again. Mr Thakur is in his early eighties still active in the public life .
