Shimla, May 25,
All India Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge stated today that the INDI Gathbandhan is going to form the government on June 4, 2024, as there are enough indications that people of the country are not happy with the Modi government and it is misusing the central agencies to crush the opposition.
Kharge was in Shimla Parliamentary Constituency canvassing for the Congress candidate Vinod Sultanpuri. After addressing an election rally at Rohru, he addressed a press conference at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan in Shimla. He said there are enough indications that the Prime Minister is going to lose the Lok Sabha election. Every day, while addressing rallies, the Prime Minister is making statements that stoop low. He accused the opposition of creating rifts between people on the basis of religion and caste and accused them of trying to stop reservations by changing the constitution. The AICC leader said that in fact, Modi is pushing the blame on the INDI alliance for his own deeds to amend the constitution.
“I understand that the PM should work like a statesman, but he is trying to divide people along the lines of Hindu-Muslim, Dalit-Backward, Urban-Tribal people,” Kharge said. He mentioned that there are crores of vacancies and backlog in SC/OBC positions, but the Prime Minister never paid heed in the last ten years to fill up these vacant posts. Now, he is paying lip service to garner votes by stating that he would fill up the posts.
Kharge also pointed out that Modi made several promises to the people of Himachal Pradesh in 2014 and 2019, but he did not fulfill any of them. The Congress government submitted a Rs 9900 crore memorandum to address the seismic devastation from the monsoon rains, but the Central government did not respond to any of their requests. He mentioned that Modi promised to provide import duty relief for apples, set up fruit processing plants, and provide employment to the youth, but these promises were never fulfilled.
Accusing the BJP of destabilizing the stable government in the state, Kharge said that the Congress government, which came with a thumping majority in 2022, was being toppled with the use of money and muscle power. He added that there are numerous instances of the Modi government toppling stable governments in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Manipur.
Kharge alleged that the BJP is using central agencies like the ED, CBI, and Income Tax to topple governments by issuing warnings to either succumb or face draconian actions. He revealed that INDIA alliance Chief Minister Hemant Soren was coerced by the ED with a false case. He was asked by the BJP to join them or fight independently in the LS; however, when Mr. Soren refused, he was booked by the ED and later arrested.
Terming the BJP a “big washing machine,” Kharge said that numerous opposition leaders accused by the BJP of corruption are now in the BJP. He launched a scathing attack on Narendra Modi, saying that the Prime Minister shows reverence to various rivers and gods but, at the same time, is trying to create divisions among people on religious lines and polarize them based on the region and clothing they wear.
He said that the Congress guarantee of Naya was being countered by various guarantees from the Modi government, but people have seen that the youth are being cheated by not being offered the promised jobs. He stated that Congress would provide Rs 400 MNREGA wage per day. He assured that Congress is committed to fulfilling all its guarantees and noted that in 2009, Congress, after winning 209 seats in the UPA, ran a successful government, so there is no reason why the INDIA alliance cannot form the government now. He demanded that the ECI should put the details of voting data on its website as it is bound to give the details to party candidates. He said that computerized data is available with the election commission, and there should be no hitch in announcing the voting data.
He concluded by saying that the Prime Minister is trying to create a fear psychosis among the people that Congress would ruin them by using bulldozers, but it is a fact that the BJP government has made similar attempts against minority people.
