Shimla, May 25,
A day after his speech, the Congress lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for accusing its government of mishandling crores of rupees in alleged rain relief to Himachal Pradesh, labeling the claims as a baseless “damp squib.”
Public Works Department Minister and Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh responded sharply to Modi’s statements made at a Mandi rally, which actress Kangana Ranaut attended. Singh clarified that only the routine Rs 300 crore from the state’s SDRF and NDRF relief funds had been allocated to Himachal Pradesh, with no special central package or additional rain relief provided during the monsoon season.
“There is not an iota of a single rupee being transferred to Himachal Pradesh during the monsoon season,” Singh asserted. He challenged the Prime Minister to verify his claims, underscoring that no extra assistance was received from the central government. Singh highlighted that a resolution demanding Rs 12,000 crore in relief had been submitted to the Centre, but the Prime Minister falsely accused the state of a scam involving thousands of crores.
Singh called on the Prime Minister to conduct an inquiry if any such transfer had occurred, reiterating that no additional funds had been received. He accused the BJP government of misleading the public by falsely claiming Rs 4,500 crore was spent from state coffers on disaster management, warning that such tactics would backfire in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
As the responsible minister, Singh swore that not a single penny had been handed over to the state by the central government. He condemned the Prime Minister’s election campaign statements as a matter of serious concern, predicting voters would address these falsehoods at the polls.
Singh emphasized the state government’s efforts, supported by the public, and accused the BJP government at the Centre of neglecting Himachal Pradesh.
