In a press release issued here today, Thakur said that the emergency was a dark chapter of democracy, and stopping the Samman Rashi was an autocratic decision of the state government.
He said that those who fought to protect the constitutional values of the country during the Emergency were honored by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
But as soon as the Congress-led Sukhu government came to power, this honorarium was stopped. Like the Emergency, this act was also dictatorial.
He said that the High Court has stayed this arbitrary decision of the Sukhu government and gave a decision in favor of the beneficiaries of this honorarium.
The Leader of the Opposition said that under the Loktantra Prahari Samman Yojana, the previous BJP government made a law to provide Rs. 15,000 per month to the Loktantra Praharis who stayed in jail for 15 days and Rs. 20,000 per month for staying in jail for more than 15 days.
This scheme was stopped by Sukhwinder Singh ‘Sukhu’ as soon as he came to power.
