Shimla, Aug 7,
Actress and Member of Parliament from Mandi constituency, Kangana Ranaut, has faced criticism from Congress supporters for not being present on the ground immediately after the August 1 disaster in Himachal Pradesh. In response, she has taken a fiery approach against the Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu-led state government. While the search for the missing 45 individuals continues, Ranaut has been vocal in accusing the state government of not doing enough for those affected.
After arriving in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday to meet the affected citizens in her constituency, Ranaut accused the state government of mishandling a Rs 1,800 crore grant provided by the Central Government after the 2023 floods. She demanded a special inquiry into the alleged misuse of these funds.
Ranaut alleged corruption in the distribution of relief and stated that people would not tolerate the mismanagement of Central Government funds. She criticized the Sukhu-led Congress regime for failing to provide Rs 7 lakh to the families of flash flood victims, as was done last year by the Central Government.
During her visit to Samej village near Rampur in Shimla district, she assured cloudburst victims of all possible help from the Central Government. She also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would likely announce a special package for Himachal, similar to the Rs 1,800 crore provided last year.
In a post on X, Ranaut stated, “Wherever I am going in flood-affected areas, helpless people are complaining about the cruel and unconcerned treatment of the State government towards them. It is tragic and inhuman.”
It is also very shameful that flood affected people are not getting any help from the state government… wherever I am going in flood affected areas, helpless people are complaining about the cruel and unconcerned treatment of the state government towards them. It is tragic and… https://t.co/gambG7fZ1i

It is noteworthy that on August 1, following the disaster, Ranaut had posted on social media that MLAs and DCs from flood-affected areas had advised her not to travel to Himachal due to red and orange alerts in various places. This post had garnered widespread criticism from supporters of the state government and the Congress party.
