Misbehaviour with Govt Officers: CM says leaders across party lines won’t be spared
Shimla, Sept 21
The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu in a address at the Vidhan Sabha, emphasized that political leaders, regardless of party lines, will face the law if found guilty of misbehaviour towards government servants.
The Chief Minister’s statement came in response to a point of order raised by Parkash Rana concerning an incident involving the misbehaviour of some Congress workers towards the Executive Engineer of Jogindernagar that occurred the previous day. CM Sukhu, visibly concerned about the incident, assured the house that he had received information about the incident and had already issued orders to ensure that the perpetrators, no matter how influential, would not escape legal consequences.
Sukhu cited a similar incident in Balh, where a Revenue officer (Kanugo) and SDM were subjected to misbehaviour, resulting in the lodging of an FIR against an MLA. The Chief Minister, while addressing the assembly, stated unequivocally, “Anybody found misbehaving with government officers will not be spared.”
Prior to it, Leader of the Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, raised the issue in the assembly, recounting the incident where Congress workers had reportedly taken an Executive Engineer hostage and subjected him to misbehaviour, including throwing water on his face. Thakur also pointed out that the XEN had been prevented from filing an FIR.
Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania recognizing the sensitivity of the case, suggested that the matter be referred to the police for a thorough investigation. He emphasized that any action taken by the police was not within the knowledge of the assembly and cautioned that newspaper clippings alone should not be considered substantial proof of the incident.
