Shimla, June 1
A mixed response was noted among the masses over the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Shimla visit to celebrate 8 yrs in power. He was given a spectacular welcome during his roadshow. On the other hand, Youth Congress activists staged a protest against not fulfilling election promises made by PM in his previous rally.
Modi, donning a white Kurta and Churdhar Pajama, came out of his cavalcade and participated in a roadshow. PM did not stop at the Coffee house this time, where he took a sip of coffee during his earlier visit in 2017. However, the PM came down of his vehicle to fetch a portrait of his mother made by a budding young artist. Modi also took a selfie with the artist and thanked her. Whereafter, he rushed to Annandale Ground without taking a halt and returned to National capital region.
The protesters, Youth Congress President Nigam Bhandari organised a dharna in the town with party activists carrying umbrellas in the hand alleging that Prime Minister did not make any announcement following up of the number of election promises he had made, previously.
After the rally CPI(M) member and former Mayor Sanjay Chauhan said that farmers and apple growers were disappointed with Modi, as he so not announce 100 pc import duty on the apple crops and MSP, which was promised by the party in Lok Sabha and Assembly Election.
The rulling party which was expecting 30000 crowd was disappointed as only 15000 chairs were occupied in the rally. The town wore a deserted look after the rally as local people and tourists avoided the heavily baracaded public places. Massive arrangements were made in the town as 6000 police personnel were deployed in every nook and corner in Shimla town.
