Shimla, June 9
The people of Himachal Pradesh, who had high expectations, elected four BJP MPs to the Lok Sabha in the recent elections, hoping for strong representation in the Union Cabinet.
The Congress party issued a statement condemning the National Democratic Alliance government for ignoring Himachal Pradesh by not including any of its MPs in the Union Cabinet, further fueling the sentiment of neglect and disappointment among the state’s residents.
Sanjay Awasthi, the working president of the State Congress Party, criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for breaking his promises to the people of Himachal Pradesh.
“The hopes were dashed when none of the MPs from Himachal Pradesh were given ministerial positions,” the Congress leader said.
Despite referring to the state as his “second home,” Modi did not appoint a single minister from Himachal Pradesh.
Awasthi argued that this step-motherly treatment reveals a clear disregard for the interests of the state.
Awasthi highlighted that the Prime Minister had solicited votes by promising to repay the faith shown by the people.
Yet, the failure to appoint even one minister from Himachal has left the state’s residents feeling betrayed.
He questioned how the Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, would defend Modi’s neglect of Himachal Pradesh, especially given the high hopes generated during the election campaigns.
The disappointment is particularly acute given that the people of Himachal Pradesh supported the BJP by winning all four seats.
Awasthi pointed out that the absence of a former Union Minister from the new cabinet demonstrates a continued neglect of the state.
He reminded the state BJP of Modi’s election speeches, suggesting they were now exposed as mere rhetoric.
Awasthi also expressed concern that the interests of Himachal Pradesh will be overlooked, as they have been in the past, without representation in the central cabinet.
He emphasized that this move sends a clear message that the Prime Minister is not serious about addressing the state’s needs.
The Congress leader accused Modi of using flowery speeches to deceive the people of Himachal for his own interest.
