Police have booked the accused, Jeet Bahadur, under Section 103(1) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder. He is currently in police custody.
Superintendent of Police Shimla, Gaurav Singh, said the case was registered on the complaint of HK Dhanta (61), a resident of Village Badhon, Tehsil Kotkhai. Dhanta stated that on June 1 around 3:35 pm, fellow worker Ramesh Dangi informed him that Deepa, Jeet Bahadur’s wife, was lying unconscious in her camp with visible injuries.
The couple had been working at a temporary shed in Bagadi near Dei, owned by Ram Dhani. Dhanta alerted the landlord and informed Kotkhai police. By 6:00 pm, police reached the site along with the landlord and found Deepa dead with multiple injury marks and dried blood on her body.
During preliminary investigation, Jeet Bahadur confessed to assaulting his wife with a wooden stick on May 31 after an argument, which led to her death.
The body has been sent for post-mortem. Police are also verifying the background of the deceased and the accused, both of whom were migrant workers residing in the area. Further investigation is ongoing.
