A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team conducted an early morning raid at a communication centre in McLeodganj, Dharamshala on Thursday. The establishment, located on Naoroji Road near the Dalai Lama Temple area, reportedly came under the scanner for suspected involvement in hawala transactions linked to illegal immigration networks.
According to Kangra Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri, the raid was part of an ongoing investigation linked to a case registered in Chandigarh. “The NIA team is examining the financial transactions, bank account details, and property documents of the communication centre’s owner,” she confirmed.

Sources indicated that the probe is focused on uncovering any money laundering routes potentially being used to facilitate unauthorized cross-border movement. The agency is pursuing multiple leads and angles to ascertain the extent of the alleged illegal operations.
The action has sparked interest in the region, given the strategic and sensitive location of McLeodganj, a hub for Tibetan exiles and tourists. Officials, however, refrained from disclosing further specifics, citing the confidential nature of the ongoing investigation.
