No end to rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, normal life disrupted

Himachal Pradesh has been experiencing persistent rainfall, hailstorms, and snowfall in high altitudes, causing disruption to normal life in the state. The drop in temperature has led to the closure of vehicular traffic in several regions. To avoid any untoward incidents, the district administration of Lahaul-Spiti has issued an alert advising locals and tourists to refrain from unnecessary travel during bad weather conditions.

According to reports, the Lahaul Spiti district received moderate to heavy snowfall in the past 24 hours, with Gondla receiving nine cm of snow and Keylong receiving four cm. Rohtang Pass, Kunzum, Baralacha, Lady of Keylong, and other high passes also received snowfall. The minimum temperature in Keylong was minus two degrees Celsius, and the weather remained partly cloudy in the state with occasional light windstorms.

The minimum temperatures across different regions in the state were below normal, with Shimla at 12.2 degrees, Bhuntar airport at 8.5 degrees, and Kalpa was 1.2 degrees. Manali five degrees, Solan 11, Kufri 9.8, Narkanda seven, Dalhousie 8.4, Mandi 13.6, Kangra 17.6, Bilaspur 15, Chamba 15.4 and Mandi remained at 13.6 degrees.
Bharmour in Chamba received 27 mm of rain, while Kothi of Kullu received 14 mm, Janjehli in Mandi 13 mm, Banjar and Kotkhai 11mm, Seobagh nine mm, Kalpa in Kinnuar 7 mm, and tourist resort Manali six mm. Rainfall was also recorded at Kukumseri of Lahaul Spiti, Saloni in Chamba, Chhatrari, Kumersen of Shimla, Saharahan in Sirmaur, and four mm in other regions.
The Met Office has forecast mainly dry weather in the mid and foothills and rain and snowfall at isolated places in the high reaches. For the next four days, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry in the rest of the state. However, a new western disturbance is expected to arrive from May 13 onwards.
