Orange alert of heavy snowfall hailstorm lightening and thunderstorm for all districts of Himachal Pradesh

The India Meteorological department sounded an orange alert in Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu Kinnaur, Lahaul Spiti, Shimla, Mandi, Sirmour ,Solan and Una of Himachal Pradesh for the next 48 hrs predicting light to moderate rain and snowfall in most of places in mid and high reaches and very heavy rain, hailstorm , thunderstorms lightening and blizzard in isolated places.
Issuing moderate snow alert IMD cautioned the administration to take necessary steps to ensure supply of essential commodities and restoration of public services during the inclement weather.
In the day today, Tourist favourites Shimla, Manali, Narkanda and others places recorded moderate spell of snowfall. However vehicular traffic was opened in Shimla town but it was already closed in the uppers reaches of state as more than 400 roads and power supplies are disrupted in many places in Shimla and other districts.
According to IMD there are three weather system which may create wet weather, snowfall and extremely cold wave in next five days in the state.
IMD attributed the reason of inclement weather to Jet Stream Winds of the order upto 140 knots at 12.6 km above mean sea level continue to prevail over North India.
The Western Disturbance as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level now runs 60°E to the north Lat. 32°N.
An induced cyclonic circulation lies over southwest Rajasthan & adjoining Pakistan at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
According to IMD state likely to have widespread rain or snowfall at most places in state tomorrow. Rain or snowfall likely to occur at most places in the high reaches many places in the mid hill and few places in the foot hills today.
Inclement weather conditions would continue on February 5 as rain and snowfall is predicted at few places in mid and high reaches and isolated places.
Heavy snow likely to occur at isolated places on 04th Feb in the districts of Chamba, Kullu, Shimla, Kinnaur and Lahul & Spiti.
Inclement weather may cause the disruptions of essential services namely water and electricity, communications and related services. Visibility
Conditions very likely to decrease.
All concerned department are asked to release guidelines for facing extreme cold and snowfall and inclement weather.
Farmers and livestock owners are advised to Keep the livestock indoors due to low temperature, Make adequate arrangements for keeping them warm.
In case of low temperature, make adequate arrangements for artificial lighting and heating for animals.
The IMD also advised to give the winter packing immediately to colonies and Give artificial food to honey bees as there is scarcity of flowers during these days.
Last two nights were coldest of the season as Mercury plummet many degrees below the freezing point. Kaza in Lahaul Spiti was at minus 15 degrees, Keylong minis ten, Kukumseri minus eight, Kalpa minus 5.6, Tourist resort Narkanda minus 3.7, Dalhousie minus three, Manali minus 1.8 and Kufri minus 1.4 degrees.
This capital towns was 1.2 degrees and two degrees below normal, Bhuntar and Shimla airport was 2.6 and four degrees both the airport not have any flight since January 31.
Minimum temperature of Dharmendra abode of Tibetan spiritual Guru Dalai Lama three degrees and and 3.6 degrees below normal, Una 4.8, Nahan(Sirmour) 6.3, Solan 3.2 Kangra 6, Mandi 3.4, Bilaspur 5.9 and Hamirpur 4.8.
Maximum temperature also went down drastically with partly Rain and mainly cloudy weather conditions which affected restoration of power and road snow clearance as day temperature plummet several degrees from the normal.
