Shimla, July 20,
Another tragic incident has marred the ongoing Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra, as a pilgrim tragically lost his life after falling into a ditch at Barahtinala near Bhimdwari enroute the trek to summit in Kullu district. The accident took place on Friday afternoon, and the injured individual was promptly rescued and transported to IGMC. Sadly, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. This marks the fifth fatality during this year’s Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra, which officially began on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Siddharth Sharma, son of Vijay Sharma, a resident of Main Market, Rampur. A police official confirmed the incident and noted that a rescue team was quickly dispatched to aid the injured pilgrim.
The perilous terrain of the Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra route is well-known for its difficulties, and this incident underscores the inherent dangers of the pilgrimage. Despite the significant risks, this pilgrimage, one of the most challenging in Himachal Pradesh, continues to attract numerous devotees each year.
Authorities have consistently stressed the importance of caution and adequate preparation for those undertaking this journey. The harsh and unpredictable conditions of the route require pilgrims to be well-equipped and physically capable of handling the demands of the trek.
The Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra remains a rigorous test of faith and endurance for many, but incidents like these highlight the urgent need for vigilance and comprehensive safety measures to ensure the safety of all participants.
