The newly formed Himachal Pradesh Congress Government has resolved to restore the foundation stone plaque at Atal Tunnel, which was laid by former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. The same was allegedly removed by the previous Jai Ram Thakur Government before Prime Minister Commissioned the tunnel.
Soon after taking charge at Chief minister office, the new CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri decided to take up the matter regarding mysterious removal of plaque by raising this issue with the concerned authority.
CM Sukhu said that the State Government would take up the matter for restoring the foundation stone plaque at Atal Tunnel Rohtang laid by Sonia Gandhi in the capacity of Chairperson of National Advisory Council on 28th June, 2010. He said that plaque of foundation stone was missing which was insulting for a democracy and must be restored at the earliest.
He said that the 9.02 kilometer tunnel was built by the Border Road Organization to connect landlocked Lahaul-Spiti district.
It would be pertinent to mention here that the Congress Party had earlier also taken up the matter with the authority concerned.
During the government of the predessor of Sukhu, Congress party MLAs and leaders had alleged that foundation stones are being removed to highjack the credit of big projects launched during previous Congress and UPA government.
Congress party had also raised this issue in the State assembly. Congress party and former Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri who is elected as new Deputy Chief minister accused the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jai Ram Thakur Government for unleashing poltical vendata to rename the Congress government schemes and programmes and demolishing the inaugural stone.
