Shimla, May 13
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh emphasized the upcoming bye-poll and Lok Sabha elections as a crucial battle against the influence of money in politics. He asserted that the contest was not merely to safeguard his government or position but to combat the practice of buying and selling public sentiments. Accusing BJP leaders of attempting to destabilize the government through financial means, Sukhu vowed that the electorate would deliver a resounding message against such tactics by defeating the BJP.
Addressing a gathering at Shimla’s Chaura Maidan alongside Congress Party’s candidate Vinod Sultanpuri, Sukhu launched scathing attacks on the BJP. He alleged that six Congress leaders had succumbed to monetary temptations, leading to their rebellion against the party. Sukhu highlighted the state government’s commitment to combating corruption and empowering its citizens, contrasting it with what he deemed as BJP’s disregard for the welfare of Himachal Pradesh.
Asserting confidence in the Congress’s prospects, Sukhu declared that the people of Himachal Pradesh would ensure a clean sweep for the party in the upcoming elections. He emphasized the government’s initiatives, such as supporting disaster-affected families and prioritizing the needs of farmers and gardeners, as evidence of its dedication to public service.
Taking aim at BJP MP Suresh Kashyap’s alleged inaction during a disaster, Sukhu criticized him for purportedly neglecting his parliamentary duties. He urged voters to support Vinod Sultanpuri, whom he described as a grassroots leader committed to serving the public.
Sukhu also highlighted the state government’s success in curbing corruption, resulting in significant revenue gains. He outlined various welfare measures, including increased wages for MNREGA workers, assistance for widows and single women, and healthcare support for the elderly. Sukhu concluded by affirming the government’s commitment to upliftment and inclusive development.
The event saw the presence of Congress leaders, including state president Pratibha Singh, along with ministers, MLAs, and party officials
